Principals' Report 15th October, 2021

Welcome Back to Term 4

This week we welcomed back the Year 7 students to 5 days per week. The Year 8, 9 and 10 students also returned on-site for 2 days per week. For students who are only on-site part-time – Years 8, 9 and 10 – students need to remember that Webex classes will be running and attendance at these is compulsory.

COVID-19 Requirements On-Site

When on site, all students are required to have a mask, engage in social distancing and be using hand sanitiser in and out of the classroom. When in lockdown, students who are on-site are also required to have a completed on-site attendance form, which have been made available through Compass. The on-site attendance form is not required if your student is on-site in accordance with the staged return. Students need to make sure they have their correct equipment for classes, including laptops, textbooks, workbooks and stationery.

School Uniform & Sun Smart Hats

When at school, students need to ensure that they are wearing full school uniform. During Term 4, this includes a broad-brimmed, sun-smart hat, which needs to be worn when outside. Students who are out of uniform should have a parent note and need to get a uniform pass from the Assistant Principal at the start of the day.

Year 12 Practice Exams

Throughout this week, Year 12 students have completed practice exams for all of their subjects. This is part of the College’s strategy to provide students with experience of examination situations to help them perform at their best in the actual exams, which begin on Wednesday, 27th October. We hope they found the practice exams useful in preparing for their final assessments. Year 12 students now have only 3 days of their formal schooling remaining, with their final attendance day being Wednesday, 20th October.

School for Student Leadership – Year 9 2022

The College has been lucky to be allocated 6 positions for Year 9 students at the School for Student Leadership – the Alpine School – for Term 4 of 2022.  This is a unique and prestigious opportunity for Year 9 students to challenge themselves, build resilience and develop their leadership skills. It is attended by students from across Victoria and provides unique opportunities in the Victorian Alps. If they attend, the Alpine School will become the student’s home school throughout Term 4, 2022; they will live on-site, eat on-site and all of their classes will be conducted at that school. Application forms have been given out to all current Year 8 students and are due by Friday, 19th November, 2021. Interested students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Year 7 2022 Enrolments

Just a reminder, that if families have not received an enrolment pack, they are available at the General Office here at the Secondary College. It would be greatly appreciated if enrolment packs with all required documentation could be returned as soon as possible.

Student Movement

As was mentioned last term, at this time of year we ask that if you are aware of any student movement for 2022 that you notify the College as soon as possible – this means that if you know of families that are coming, or students who may be leaving, we would greatly appreciate a heads up as our planning (and funding) relies directly on student numbers.  We have already gained a number of enrolments and indications of new enrolments for 2022.  Thanks in advance for your assistance with this.

Mobile Phone Policy

Just a reminder to all parents and students about the school and Department’s mobile phone policy. Students are NOT to have their mobile phones when at school. They are handed up to teachers at the start of the day and collected by students at the end of the day. Students who are late to school must hand them to the Front Office. If students are found with mobile phones, they will be confiscated. After a second infraction, a parent will be required to come and pick up the phone. A third infraction will see the mobile phone put into the school safe for a week and a parent interview will be required. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

What's Flowering in our Staff's Gardens at the moment!

We asked Staff what was flowering in their gardens at the moment.  Below are some of their amazing Pics.

Year 10 Food Technology

Last week in Year 10 Food Technology students at home were given some options for cooking.  They could either cook their own recipe or a honey and mustard chicken recipe. Therefore, there was a variety of Honey Mustard Chicken, Honey Chicken, Chicken Sticks, Curried Sausages, Butter Chicken and Apple Crumble. In the theory classes during Remote and Flexible Learning we have just started looking at food for good health, and what alternatives we can have to make our choices better for our health.
