Issue 34 - Welcome Back with Balloons and Biscuits!!

Principals' Report 5th November, 2021

Week 4

It was wonderful to have the beginning of the week filled with wonderful weather, including our Melbourne Cup public holiday. Although farmers may not like the rain that fell on Wednesday, it was nice to not have to water the garden. This week students and staff have been working hard in their classrooms to establish a sense of normality with full time face-to-face learning.

VCE Exams

Students will continue to have exams for each of their subjects over the next two weeks, with the last exam finishing on Wednesday, 17th November. Exams will be undertaken in the school’s ILC during this period, meaning other classes will be moved. Students also need to keep away from the ILC throughout the day during this exam period. We wish our Year 12 students all the best with their final assessments.

Year 10 Exams

Year 10 students will begin their exams on Monday 8th November. The Year 10 exams allow students to practice what a subject-based formal assessment is like in preparation for their VCE studies and other formal assessments.

Year 9 Attendance NCTTC

Year 9 Students have returned to the North Central Trade Training Centre (NCTTC) this week. However, due to the current Operations Guide our students cannot attend on the same date as students from other schools. Normally students would share the facilities with Wedderburn College P-12 – due to this they will be attending every second week. The remaining dates for Year 9 attendance at the NCTTC are Wednesday 17th November and Wednesday 1st December. On the other Wednesdays, when they are not attending Charlton, students should attend St. Arnaud Secondary College, where they can receive additional support for their ongoing work.

COVID-19 Requirements On-Site

When on-site, all staff and students are required to have a mask, engage in social distancing and be using hand sanitiser in and out of the classroom unless a medical certificate is supplied. In line with COVID operational requirements the following activities can resume: school assemblies, formals, graduations and other ceremonies (including events held off school premises and/or with parents/carers and other guests), NCTTC (with a modified timetable), Year 10 work experience, school tours, visitors (consistent with vaccination requirements and other health and safety controls), excursions, swimming and other pool use, incursions (vaccination requirements apply), camps and overnight stays, transition, and interschool activities.

Year 7 Transition

On Thursday 4th November, 21 students from both St. Patrick’s and St. Arnaud Primary School attended the Year 7 Transition Day to begin their learning journey at St. Arnaud Secondary College. It was wonderful to see students interacting with the staff and familiarising themselves with the College classrooms and grounds. We look forward to the next Transition Day on Wednesday 17th November from 8.50 am – 3.05pm.

School Uniform & Sun Smart Hats

When at the College, students need to ensure that they are wearing full school uniform. During Term 4, this includes a sun-smart hat, which needs to be worn when outside. There seems to be an influx in the number of students requiring Uniform Passes. Students who are out of uniform should have a parent note and need to get a uniform pass from the Assistant Principal at the start of the day.

Year 7 2022 Enrolments

Just a reminder, that if families have not received an enrolment pack, they are available at the General Office  at the Secondary College. It would be greatly appreciated if enrolment packs with all required documentation could be returned as soon as possible.
